Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of our most frequently asked questions!

Can my child try a class before we register?

Absolutely! We offer an introductory class so kids can experience our classes before they register. We know they will love it here, but an intro class is a great way for dancers, parents, and teachers to come together and find the right class for your child. Introductory class fees are $19-$25 depending on the class. Please see our class info and schedules here, then contact us here to schedule your child’s intro class!

What should my child wear to class?

We have a dress code for each class which is listed in our studio handbook. We do not require specific colored leotards for each level, but all dancers need to be in dancewear and have proper dance shoes. Wearing dancewear helps dancers feel ready for class and inspires them to try their best. Like other activities, you need to have the right equipment so you can move properly and the teacher can see body placement. This helps prevent bad habits which can potentially lead to injuries. Of course, we are more lenient with little ones, if they want to wear a huge tutu- go for it! We want them to feel special!

Do you do recitals? Do all students have to participate?

Yes, our recitals are mandatory for students in our 3 & up dance season classes. The season begins in August and end in June with our dancers performing in two recitals-Winter & Spring. Our shows are so much fun and are a great experience for dancers of all ages! Even the youngest dancers have a great time getting dressed up in a special costume and getting to show their families and friends what they’ve been learning in class. We do not expect perfection out of our students, we want them to be confident and do their best. If they come off stage smiling, we’re happy! Kids talk about the recital for months afterwards and are always curious about what their dance and costume will for the next show. Our goal at ABC’s of Dance is to help children build their confidence through performing. We have proven stage-fright elimination techniques and are proud to say that we have a 100% success rate of getting kids on stage!

How does the season progress? What happens over the course of the season?

Through over 23 years of experience in the dance industry and 17 years of owning a studio, we have developed our Road to Stardom Program. Dancers focus on continual progression through our program:
• Introduction to concepts and technique
• Improve and build confidence
• Put that technique into choreography
• Performance which allows them to blossom and showcase their talents

My child is at the older end of your class age ranges, will they be bored?

Absolutely not! Most of our classes are designed to be 2-year programs. The first year is spent learning the basics and in the second year we work on improving their technique. Dance is based on repetition in order to achieve the illusive ideal of perfection. No child is going to do anything perfectly, and will always have something to work on. Children who are older than some of the other kids in the class, or who are in the class for a second year, will gain confidence because they will learn and improve more quickly. They love feeling like the big kid who knows what they’re doing!

There are usually many levels of ability in a class, so teachers are very accustomed to working each student to their individual level. If a student were to be put in the next level before they are ready, they will become discouraged and frustrated. We don’t want that! We want our students to love dance, and our experienced teachers will make sure they are in the right class for their level.

For your season-long classes, do I have to sign up for the full season?

Yes. The dance season at most studios is the same as the school year, beginning in August and ending in June. Children get the best results and discover the magic of learning when they are given the time and opportunity to progress and develop their abilities. This also allows them to feel the care and personal attention from their teacher which makes them feel important, special, and supported. Kids build confidence and feel a huge sense of achievement as they improve and their teacher celebrates the accomplishments. Dancers begin beautiful friendships and feel part of something truly special. We are creating wonderful lasting memories that dancers will cherish forever- whether in class, bonding with their teacher, making friends, or performing on stage.

Like learning an instrument, learning dance takes time and practice. It takes time for students to make meaningful progress. While only a few dancers may go on to pursue a career in dance, the life lessons and special memories will stay with them forever!

Do I have to pay for the full season up front? Can I make payments?

We charge for the full season as a convenience for everyone. This way, you don’t need to remember to pay a monthly bill or having to give us an updated credit card every time your bank sends you a new one. You just pay once and then you don’t have to worry about it!

We do have payment plans available- contact us here for more info.

Is there a dress code? Why?

We have a dress code for each class which is listed in our studio handbook. We do not require specific colored leotards for each level, but all dancers need to be in dancewear and have proper dance shoes. Wearing dancewear helps dancers feel ready for class and inspires them to try their best. For example, dancers feel more like a ballerina and will try harder in ballet class while they are wearing a leotard, tights, ballet shoes, and hair in a bun than they would wearing sweats, socks, and their hair down. Like other activities, you need to have the right equipment so you can move properly and the teacher can see body placement. This helps prevent bad habits which can potentially lead to injuries. Yes. The dance season at most studios is the same as the school year, beginning in August and ending in June. We have two performances each season, winter and spring. Performances are the highlight of the year and kids not only build confidence and feel a sense of achievement with each showcase, but it’s a lot of fun too!
